Congratulations, Prof. Vlad Bumatay on your new publication!
Asst. Prof. Vlademire Kevin D. Bumatay is a professor in Philosophy under the Department of History and Philosophy of the College of Social Sciences. Some of the subjects he teaches are Philo 11 Logic, Philo 27 Philosophizing on Being Human, Philo 150 Epistemology, and Philo 130 Metaphysics.
He finished his undergraduate degree as a magna cum laude in BA Social Sciences major in History and minor in Philosophy in 2015 at the University of the Philippines Baguio. He also finished his Masters in Philosophy at the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2020.
Prof. Vlad Bumatay is also a recipient of the Claro R. Ceniza Price in Logic in 2020 with the paper titled, “Formalizing Induction: A Defense” which was the early workings of his new publication, “Formal schemas of induction as models”. The article is published in the 200th volume of Synthese. Synthese is a philosophy journal focusing on contemporary issues in epistemology and related fields.
The article explores the relationship and the connection between formalizations of induction and the actual inductive inferences of scientists. His work also argues that these formalizations should be seen as models rather than literal descriptions of inductive inferences in science. (To read the entire abstract, click here.)
