    Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences

    The College offers an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences following a major-minor scheme. A student of B.A. Social Sciences can choose to major in Economics, History, or Anthropology, and minor in Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology.

    Expected Learning Outcomes

    1. Develop critical thinking about society;

    2. Discuss the general history, common and distinguishing concepts, perspectives and methods of the Social Sciences;

    3. Explain social phenomena using social theory;

    4. Conduct independent social research;

    5. Demonstrate ethical Social Science practice; and

    6. Commit to lifelong learning in their personal and professional lives.

    BA Social Sciences (Major in Anthropology)

    Anthropology aims for a holistic study of man and culture. It seeks to understand the complexity of human beings and societies–their variations, adaptive strategies, and changes across time and space. The program fosters your deeper appreciation of cultural diversity and trains you to do anthropological research with analytic and methodological rigor.

    BA Social Sciences (Major in Economics)

    Economics integrates a social science perspective that puts forth a holistic and humanistic, rather than a merely technical view of economic issues. It intends to produce graduates who possess fundamental skills in economic analysis. The program will cultivate a general familiarity with the political, social and cultural context of economic behavior.

    BA Social Sciences (Major in History)

    History studies the human past. Complex changes and continuities in the economic, social, political, and cultural life of a community are best understood in an interdisciplinary and integrated manner. The program equips you with various methodologies in research and writing history. It also aims for you to develop a global outlook that is grounded in nationalism and local knowledge.

    BA Social Sciences Minor Disciplines

    Philosophy

    Philosophy inquires into fundamental questions about the world, knowledge, and the human condition. The program provides basic proficiency in the history of philosophy and the main areas of philosophical inquiry, as well as skills and competencies necessary for philosophical research. Its mode of philosophizing mediates local experiences and sources with universal thinking and is in dialogue with the natural and social sciences, the humanities and the arts.

    Political Science

    Political Science teaches you both the questions that political scientists ask in their attempt to understand politics and the manner of asking them. It develops independent and critical thinking on the appreciation of concepts to current political events.

    Psychology

    Psychology introduces you to the study of behavior and mental life, the investigation of the causes and dynamics of behavioral patterns and provides students with knowledge, skills and techniques for the solutions to individual problems.

    Sociology

    Sociology studies humans in various levels of group life, from the smallest dyad to the largest of social organizations, the society. The discipline hinges on an intellectual tradition that continues to be shaped by attempts to understand order and change in society.

    Bachelor of Science in Management Economics

    The Bachelor of Science in Management Economics (BSME) program provides knowledge and training in business management that is anchored on conceptual foundations developed in the field of economics. The program is envisioned to respond to the growing needs of Northern Luzon for managerial skill and expertise with solid grounding in economics.

    Students of the program shall learn the skills for effective business practices adapted to a prevailing context, but responsive to change and conducive to innovation. In addition to learning about the fundamental business management areas of operations, marketing, finance, and human resources, the program covers macro- and micro-economic tools of analysis for management and decision making. Equipped with these tools and with the knowledge on how to wield them with flexibility, the student is prepared to analyze business operations and the economic situation of an organization, an industry, and the country. The student shall not only be trained in managerial decision making and economic theory, but shall also acquire an understanding of the political and socio-cultural context of organizations. The program shall respond to the demand for business practitioners with a more holistic perspective in decision making and business operations, preparing students for careers in professional management, corporate planning, technical analysis, and industry analysis.

    The program shall also hone the student’s research skills, not often given importance in undergraduate programs in management and business-related courses. The advantage of the program is the combination of theory and application from business and economics courses as well as research training. The inclusion of a thesis requirement, business practice, and several courses developing research skills will not only equip the student to perform research functions in the context of business enterprises but also to prepare them to pursue graduate studies in business management or economics.
