The College of Social Sciences is known for its accomplishments in interdisciplinary social science research. This claim is reinforced by the outstanding track record in the Cordillera Studies Center. The CSC started out as a research arm of the College, even before when the CSS was a division under the UP College of Baguio. The CSC has evolved into a well-respected research institution through the faculty’s institution-building initiatives and quality interdisciplinary research on the Cordillera and Northern Luzon. The CSC has also established strong linkages with local government units and agencies as well as NGOs.

The CSC is the research center of the University of the Philippines Baguio that focuses on Cordillera and Northern Luzon and Indigenous Studies. Research under the CSC covers a variety of topics ranging from resource management, governance and public policy, local history and ethnohistory, worldviews, and gender studies among others. Topics under the CSC has since then expanded to encompass not only the social sciences, but other disciplines in the humanities and the natural sciences.

Research in the College of Social Sciences is not only limited to the CSC. The college faculty of the CSS also has a great track record in their individual and collaborative research. Many of our distinguished faculty members have been featured in international publications, and have presented their papers in international conferences.

If you’re interested in learning more of the specific research done by the faculty of the CSS, you can head to the Research and Publications Database of UP Baguio, or you can head to our Faculty page to look at their key researches.
