Confucian Lecture at UP Baguio!
11 May 2023 – Philosophy 126 Class brings you the first ever Confucian Lecture at UP Baguio!
Join us on May 15, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. via Zoom for a lecture on Ren and Civic Friendship, to be given by Dr. Mark Kevin S. Cabural from Xiamen University.
Ren, which was translated by Alfredo Co as “consciousness-of-human-others”, is the central virtue of Confucianism. In his lecture, Dr. Cabural will discuss the virtue of ren as a possible foundation for civic friendship and how it can contribute to problems that emerge in liberal democratic societies today through counteracting the negative tendency of an individualist understanding of liberal democratic values.
Dr. Mark Kevin S. Cabural was awarded with a PhD in Humanities (with a concentration on Philosophy and Religion) by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in June 2021. He is currently an International Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Philosophy, Xiamen University. He was also the recipient of the 2021 China International Postdoctoral Exchange Fellowship. His research interests include comparative philosophy, intercultural philosophy, comparative philosophy and religion, Ancient Greco-Roman Philosophy, Ancient and Classical Chinese Philosophy, and Continental Philosophy.
