2022 Gawad Parangal by CHED-CAR
20 January — The UPB College of Social Sciences proudly congratulates, College Dean, Dr. Leah E. Abayao for being awarded the 2022 Gawad Parangal by CHED-CAR (Commission on Higher Education-Cordillera Administrative Region, Office of Planning, Research and Knowledge Management!
As part of the celebration of the CHED 2nd National Higher Education Day and 28th Founding Anniversary, the Commission awards the 2022 Gawad Parangal in which Dr. Abayao, along with Botany professor, Dr. Teodora D. Balangcod were granted. They were awarded on 20 January at the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College. The recognition of the exemplary efforts of various Higher Education Institutions, faculty, and distinctive achievements of graduates in Cordillera also went live in CHED CAR’s offical Facebook page.
Dr. Leah E. Abayao is the current dean of the College of Social Sciences. She is a professor of History under the Department of History and Philosophy, and former Director of the Cordillera Studies Center. Dr. Abayao is also recipient of the UP Scientist Award, making her a part of the 11 UP scientists of the University of the Philippines Baguio.
Dr. Abayao is known for her research on indigenous knowledge, the indigenous peoples, and on the Cordillera.
Besides serving as dean of the CSS, she also teaches graduate-level courses in the UP Baguio’s PhD Indigenous Studies program and the CSS’s MA History program.
